The Sonification of Rhythms in Human Electroencephalogram
We use sonification of temporal information extracted from scalp EEG to characterize the dynamic properties of rhythms in certain frequency bands. Sonification proves particularly useful in the simultaneous monitoring of several EEG channels. Our results suggest sonification as an important tool in the analysis of multivariate data with subtle correlation differences.

Two circadian rhythms in the human electroencephalogram during wakefulness.
The influence of the circadian pacemaker and of the duration of time awake on the electroencephalogram (EEG) was investigated in 19 humans during ∼40 h of sustained wakefulness. Two circadian rhythms in spectral power density were educed. The first rhythm was centered in the theta band (4.25-8.0 Hz) and exhibited a minimum ∼1 h after the onset of melatonin secretion. The second rhythm was cente...
متن کاملTemporal Interactions between Cortical Rhythms
Multiple local neuronal circuits support different, discrete frequencies of network rhythm in neocortex. Relationships between different frequencies correspond to mechanisms designed to minimise interference, couple activity via stable phase interactions, and control the amplitude of one frequency relative to the phase of another. These mechanisms are proposed to form a framework for spectral i...

This review investigates how laminar fMRI can complement insights into brain function derived from the study of rhythmic neuronal synchronization. Neuronal synchronization in various frequency bands plays an important role in neuronal communication between brain areas, and it does so on the backbone of layer-specific interareal anatomical projections. Feedforward projections originate predomina...
